10 Ways to Promote Your Upcoming Fundraiser!!

Your group can offer the greatest product in the world, but if people in the community don't know about the fundraiser your group won't meet its fundraising goals. This is why it is essential to promote any upcoming fundraiser. Here are some inexpensive ways to ensure that everyone in your community knows about the upcoming fundraiser!!

(10) Program Website… This should be your programs first step! If your program has a website that receives traffic from players, parents, and other supporters you MUST promote the fundraiser here! Provide all important dates and contact info for people who want to order.

(9) School announcements… See if your program can get the fundraiser added to the daily announcements at school. This will promote the fundraiser amongst other students, but more importantly amongst teachers, staff, and administrators.

(8) Home Games... If you’re program has good attendance at home games and the fundraiser is being done in-season, try setting up a booth at home games to take orders on the spot!

(7) Signs in Town… See if any businesses located in prominent locations around town might be willing to let you put a large sign promoting the fundraiser in their yard or at a busy intersection.

(6) Newspaper… Most newspapers will put info on your sale in the events section for free. Think about running a nice color ad in the paper to help promote the fundraiser within the community!

(5) Local Businesses... Many businesses (i.e. restaurants, etc) will put up flyers for your fundraiser on their bulletin board.

(4) Church Bulletin... The local church bulletins can be a great spot to promote a fundraiser among community members.

(3) Teachers Alias… See if the head coach, principal, or athletic director will send out an email to all teachers and staff in the district informing them of your upcoming sale! Be sure to get permissions from the schools administration before sending though.

(2) Facebook… With over 600 million users your group can’t afford to avoid this free resource! Create an Event and have each player and parent who has a Facebook account send it to all friends and family!

Transition Planning... Does Your Program Have a Plan??

As the snow melts away and spring inches closer we wanted to touch on one area that will be particularly important for your group to focus on this spring. Transition planning. Students will not be the only ones graduating this spring, with them many groups will see their best and most experienced booster club members moving on. This can leave a tremendous void for those remaining in the program if not addressed before the actual transition takes place.

With the problem established lets discuss the solution!

Solutions can vary depending on the structure of your booster club, the involvement of the coach, and a variety of other factors, but what’s important for your program is that there is some consistency and an opportunity for those who will be taking over the booster club to learn before they take the reins. A great way to do this is to ask boosters, who will be tackling fundraising duties, for a two year commitment. This two year time period helps to ensure that there will be enough overlap among members that the new booster members won’t have to reinvent the proverbial fundraising wheel the following year.

It really helped to be co-chair for a year… I didn’t go into my first fundraiser blind. My predecessor got me ready for almost everything I would face.”AFRDS.org

Another essential piece to ensuring a smooth transition is to keep good records. These records should include information on the process, responsibilities, important dates, key issues, areas to be improved, and any other pertinent and helpful information. A good fundraising company should help provide a steady hand through this process and we think we can do just that!
